Established in April 2000 with £18m funding from institutional investors, and quoted on AIM. Axiomlab provides capital and people to early stage technology businesses, working in co-operation with mangement to build the business.
Axiomlab focuses on businesses which demonstrate significant IPR, and offer innovative soloutions to industry problems in fast growing markets. They will consider most technologies except biotechnology and dot.coms, provided they are past or at proof of concept. Typically Axiomlab will invest between £250,000 and £1m in return for a significant minority interest.
Axiomlab has 6 regional offices across the UK, but has particularly close ties with the North West Corporate technology team. Fred Mendelsohn, Axiomlab’s co-founder and Managing Director says, "We liase regularly with RBS managers to identify businesses who need our input. Our operating model enables RBS to provide customers with significant added value, by giving them access to tangible, hands-on management help, as well as equity funding".
Kath Brickell, who heads up the RBS Corporate Group in Manchester, believes the link with Axiomlab has enabled RBS to offer a far more comprehensive service to customers.
